5 Ways to help get through the recession.

We all know by now that this recession will be here for a little while. It doesn’t mean that we should all panic though, let’s leave that to the politicians, we have businesses to run!

While working late into an evening I came up with 5 ways I think can help your business make it through this in one piece. Although if anyone has any other suggestions please add them!

1) Marketing = Good

A lot of peoples gut instinct is to stop spending on anything which isn’t “essential”. Make sure this doesn’t include marketing. Now is the time to spend. Competition is thinning out, take advantage of this and make yourself the market leader. Chances are you’ll also get some great deals right now.

2) Old vs New

Everyone wants new clients, but don’t forget the ones you already have. It’s a lot cheaper to sell to existing customers, so before jumping through hoop after hoop looking for a new client, talk to the ones you have. If nothing else it will make sure they are not thinking of looking elsewhere while you were chasing the new ones!

3) Networking

Get out there and meet people! We’re all fighting through this, so let’s help each other. Go out to any networking events you can spare the time to. You’ll meet a lot of people, learn a few things and maybe even make one of those sales which seem to be becoming rarer and rarer to a lot of people right now!

4) Love Your Work

It tough out there right now and it’s only natural to get down about it all. Don’t. It makes it a lot harder to do anything if you have a negative outlook, but more than that it will effect the whole team around you – bad if you’re part of that team, even worse if you run it. Keep the positivity flowing round the whole office and you’ll see a huge difference in productivity. Make everyone love their job.

5) Celebrate Success

I love this one – it’s so simple, yet so many people miss it. With all the doom and gloom out there, it’s getting harder and harder to find a win in the day, so when someone does, make sure it’s celebrated. Make the team feel good about it and they’ll work even harder to find the next one.

Good luck out there!
