Selecting Table Occurrences – Fast

March 23rd, 2009

If you’ve ever worked on a FileMaker database that is of any decent size, you’ll know how time consuming it can be to locate the correct Table Occurrence  in your Relationship Graph.  Well the team at myFMbutler have very kindly developed a little application to help, and what’s even better they give it away free.  The only downside is that it only works on Macintosh, but as that is my preferred development platform it works for me.

The app runs as an icon in the menu bar on your Mac and really only has one option – Select Occurrence.  To use it you just open the Relationship Graph in FileMaker and then select the option from the icon on your menu bar.  A dialog box will appear and you can type in all or part of the occurrence name you are looking for, hit enter and your TO will be selected in the graph.

Occurrence Selector

It’s so simple, but works fantastically and saves so much time when working on large systems.

I’ve included a link to Occurrence Selector for anyone who’s interested.
