What is it?
Just in case anyone doesn’t know – Twitter is basically a micro blogging site that gives you 140 characters to blog with! Simple as really. You follow people, people follow you, it’s all very nice.
It’s also good fun to be honest. When I first used it I couldn’t see the point, but it does get addictive. Should anyone want to follow my twitter please do.
Right – shameless plug out the way, we can get on with the basic question…
Does Twitter help my SEO?
Simple answer- no. Not in any direct sense anyway, the links all go up as nofollow links, so that takes away their use for a nice backlink boost. You have to think of twitter as a networking tool in the more old fashioned sense of the word. This is about creating a network of people who have an interest in what you are saying, and of course, finding people that interest you.
I’ve already started to follow people who I would never have found any other way – it is also an easy way to find people you have met in the past – re-active old contacts, etc..
If you have 100 people following you, when you decide to post about your new website or blog, that’s 100 people who will see it, 100 people who might visit it, and, if you’ve done things right, 100 people who might then go and tell all of their contacts about it. That, in simple terms is the biggest thing Twitter can do for you.
