Finding Dates in FileMaker 8+

When FileMaker Pro 8 came out, the ability to search on date and timestamp fields was vastly improved, these carry through to FileMaker Pro 10.  Here’s a short list of some of my favourites that can save a lot of time…

(Please note that dates are in UK format dd/mm/yyyy)
Find: All dates in May, 2004FMP 7: 1/5/2004…31/5/2004

FMP 8+: 5/2004



Find: July 1997 thru October 1998
FMP 7: 1/7/97…31/10/98FMP 8+: 7/1997…10/1998


Find: All timestamps occurring in the 3 o’clock hour today

FMP 7: must specify manually

FMP 8+: // 3 pm


Find: All times occurring in the 3 o’clock hour (not including 4:00 pm)

FMP 7: 3:00 pm…3:59:59.999999 pm

FMP 8+: 3 pm


Find: All dates that occur on a Friday

FMP 7: not possible

FMP 8+: =Friday


Find: All timestamps in the 3 o’clock hour, in the month of May, 2005

FMP 7: not possible

FMP 8+: 5/2005 3 pm


Find: Add dates in the year 2004, but only if their day is the 10th thru the 15th

FMP 7: not possible

FMP 8+: {10..15}/*/2004
