Pause on Error was a huge successes with some fantastic sessions and a really great atmosphere. Thanks to everyone involved from the Sponsors to the Speaker and Delegates.
From the age of 11 back in 1980, when I got my hands on my first computer, I was kind of obsessed by them. Through school, all the way to college, my fate was sealed to be a true computer geek. It was then in ’86 that I came across my first Apple, my very own Apple IIe, and then shortly after I got to work with Macintosh. It was love at first sight. In a very short space of time family and friends saw me turn into a true Apple Macintosh Evangelist, which I’ve remained to this day. For years i’d been working with computers that ran code, from Basic to Pascal, Assembly to Cobol and now here was a computer with a Graphical User Interface that just worked. It was a machine that allowed you to perform a task without having to be an uber-geek that spent all night writing code in dark rooms. It changed my life and influenced the way that I look at and design systems today.
After being a total geek this morning and queueing up with the hundreds of other Apple fans, I just want to wish the team at the new Apple Store, Reading all the very best of luck and say how glad we are, at Linear Blue, to see a local Apple Store in Reading.
For all those UK TechNet members out there, just to let you know I’ll be giving a preview of one of my DevCon talks at the next TechNet meeting, only we’ll be expanding it into more of a workshop – so bring your laptops.
As a bespoke development company we often utilise FileMaker as a development platform to design software systems for our clients that are locked down to allow for a robust environment. The disadvantage of this is that end users are locked away from the great reporting power of Filemaker Pro.
With some of the best developers from around the world gathered once again to share knowledge, information and products at this years conference was as good as ever.
The main new user feature within FileMaker 11 is its ability to allow you to easily produce charts directly within FileMaker.
The last day was all about FileMaker ‘Under the Hood’. The morning started with a session on the ESS side of FileMaker and how that integrates with SQL and what exactly is going on when FileMaker talks to an external SQL database. Details of how the keys work between the two systems, what data is loaded and when and how to get the most performance out of your system.
After last nights celebrations I think we were all a little tired in the morning, but there were too many good sessions to miss.
Friday night started with the Welcome Reception by the Product Showcase. A great chance to network, talk to developers & exhibitors and grab a bite to eat. Of course the food was excellent, however I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I was disappointed to not see any chicken
