Last week Linear Blue turned 10! This is a happy occassion for Linear Blue, we are delighted with our successful solutions created with clients over the last 10 years. The company was founded in April 2000, by Paul de Hallé to specialise in his passion for advanced cross platform database development.
This week I have been giving some thought to what makes a successful business. We all know the essential elements – expertise, great customer service, effective marketing and efficient management. However, culture also plays a critical role in any business but is often overlooked.

As a rule, a lot of people don’t like change. They get comfortable with the way things are and don’t want it to change. That’s ok. I understand that, I’ve been guilty of that feeling more than once. You get your life how you like it and don’t want anything to shake the delicate balance you’ve built up. But if you’re honest, it’s normally some huge and often unexpected or unwanted changes that can bring the best things in life. This can also apply to business.
Small Businesses have done a better job at surviving the recession, than most would think. According to a recent study by Kingston University, 48% of small businesses have maintained or increased their profitability in the past year.
It would be rude not to introduce myself and start blogging! I will start by telling you a little bit about myself first.
I need to start by saying sorry for not blogging in ages! We’ve been very busy (which can only be a good thing!)

You know, as I write this now, things are good. I feel very satisfied with myself. You see, I had a number of things I needed to do this week. A mixture of urgent, important and the ones that I couldn’t be bothered to do and had been putting off for as long as possible. We all have them! So, I decided to get my head down and not look up until I had crossed one thing off from each category. Seemed simple enough.
We all know by now that this recession will be here for a little while. It doesn’t mean that we should all panic though, let’s leave that to the politicians, we have businesses to run!

Over the course of time we will all be posting about our particular areas of expertise – with mine being anything that falls under the category of “web technologies” (although there may be a few diversions in there at some points). So keep an eye out for some posts about anything from CSS and HTML through to Adobe Flash and Photoshop (I know, I know its not strictly a “web technology” but its a fantastic piece of software for any web developer to get their head around – even if your focus is primarily on development).
